Gary Coleman Seizure

Different Strokes actor Gary Coleman suffered a stroke Friday on the set of The Insider. Ironically enough, Dr Drew Pinsky was on the set and treated Coleman until paramedics arrived. So, what exactly is a seizure, and what does this mean for Gary Coleman (aka “what you talkin’ bout Willis?”) …

Well, a seizure is simply a fit or convulsion caused by disturbed or altered brain function (excited electrical signals in the brain). Several different types of seizures exist, and severity of convulsions differ between episodes. Seizures can be isolated events (usually associated with drug usage or blood sugar levels), but individuals with certain brain chemistry are prone to seizures and suffer from a condition called Epilepsy.

Now, another risk factor for Epilepsy/seizure is kidney failure, and since Coleman underwent two failed kidney transplant operations in the past (he suffers from a genetic kidney disease, which is responsible for his short stature), failure is a likely cause. This is the second seizure Coleman suffered in the past month.

Reportedly, Coleman was transported in stable condition and is still assumed as such. Furthermore, Dr Drew is, allegedly, still awesome.

Get well soon Gary, and more as this story develops.
